Have you ever looked for something and thought you knew where it was but still couldn’t find it? It can be frustrating. When you search for God, you won’t be disappointed in this way.
Right now you might be saying, “How can I find God if He is invisible?” God is a spirit who one day, we will see as He is. For right now, God uses believers to speak to each other and to non-believers. They deliver the message that God wants you to hear. It is thought the obedience of Christ’s followers that God speaks to us.
But, God is not limited to one method of communication. He is the Master of the Universe. He spoke to Moses through a burning bush. Nothing is beyond Him. He spoke to Joseph the carpenter through dreams.
God is not a “respecter of persons.” This means that He will do the same thing for you that He does for others. All of His promises are universal and for everyone. He may not bless you both in the same way, but He will bless you.
Where is God then? He is as close as your heart. To find Him, read His word and pray to Him. You can get down on your knees or call out to Him while you are sitting at the kitchen table. God wants to hear from you as much as you want to hear from Him. Talk to Him like He was sitting right next to you.
God is not a magic genie. He will answer our prayers but he will not jump out of a lamp in your living room and present you with what you want. God desires more for you than just giving you everything that you desire. He wants to teach you to be like His son, Jesus.
God will show up when you search for Him, but will you know it? Think of it like having a radio. Even with the radio in your possession, it is of no use to you unless you can hear it. You will be no closer to knowing God if you can’t hear His voice.
The book of James, chapter 4, verse 2 says that “we have not because we ask not” (paraphrase). Give God a try. You have nothing to lose and everything in heaven to gain. Ask Him to come into your life and heal your hurts. Ask Him to help you find work to support your family. Ask Him to take away your sinful nature and make you like Christ.
The only requirement that God makes is that you seek Him with your entire heart. When God has your heart, He can use your heart to distinguish His voice. You will hear His answers to your prayers through the preacher on Sunday morning, the apology from someone who has hurt you, the job offer that seemed to come out of nowhere or the friend who offers their support when you are ill. God uses people but only your heart will let you know that it is God blessing you through them.
Exercise your faith. Call on God right now and believe that you will see Him work in your life.
